Measuring
is a fairly simple process...just use a tape measure or
rolling measuring wheel.
It is very helpful to us if you send a drawing of your fence layout showing each fence "run" and the gate openings.
Total footage, artistic ability and drawing to scale are not important!
We just would like a general layout showing simply, the length of each fence run, which sections may have to go up or down a slope (Rackable) and the width of the gate openings. With this information we will determine everything for you: the number of fence panels, the number and types of posts, etc., right down to the number of screws that you will need!!
There are 3 ways to get us a drawing:
We have made available, right here, a very simple layout drawing page that you
can use to create and e-mail us a basic drawing. Just click this pencil
on
the Free Quote Form to send us the
details. Very easy and fun!!

You
can do a simple hand drawn sketch like the one shown here.
It doesn't have to be neat or even to scale!! We just need to see
the layout and be able to read the measurements. It is very helpful to
see where your yard may slope up or down and therefore may require
Rackable or even Heavy
Rackable sections as shown in the illustration. Unlike most other
fence companies, we do not charge
extra for these sections!
You can also use a program such as MS Paint to create a drawing on your computer like this one. We can accept files in any common PC image format such as .bmp, .jpg, .gif, .tif, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint or even some AutoCAD files.

This can be
sent to us via e-mail or fax - or even uploaded to our server by using the
Quotes
page.
Whatever method you use to send us a drawing, please round up all measurements to the nearest foot - 26' 3 1/2" should read 27' as all sections (panels) can be trimmed down to fit a shorter distance...this is the normal installation procedure.
Unlike fence panels, gate openings should be specified in feet or inches as necessary (fractions are OK for gates, for example: 49 1/2" or 50 3/4") and must be the size of the opening to be filled from inside of post to inside of post, not the size of the gate, like this:

The actual gate will always be made a bit smaller than the opening to allow for the hinges and latches.
If you want to stake out your posts while doing the measuring, Residential and Commercial posts will be 72 1/2" on center and Industrial will be 72 3/8" on center. (For more information on the types of aluminum fence posts and where to use them, please see the Posts page.)
